Kaynes: (closes his newspaper, strokes his neck beard) There's a rumor. Unsubstantiated, of course
Malthus: Oh, of course. But could it be?
*Gainsborough runs up breathlessly*
Gainsborough: I saw it on the big board! It's true! It's true!
Malthus: (excitedly) It's on the big board? Impossible! Never!
*Robespierre and Rob Van Winkle drive by. Robespierre waves a telegram*
Robespierre: Here it is! The official announcement! I received it only a few minutes ago
*Malthus chases after the car*
Malthus: Let me see! I cannot believe it! I won't believe it!
*Van Winkle stalls the car, stumbles out and falls into the river. As the current sweeps him away he yells out...*
Van Winkle: Viiiiibbb Gyooooooooooooor!
Malthus: Vib Gyor. I was afraid it was so.
Kaynes: So it ends.

Did you mean Keynes?
You're assuming it's the economist. It's just a coincidence that one of the men in this awful story just happens to have a name similar to a famous economist and that another man does have the name of a famous economist.
Oh Summer's Day in the Winter, must you haunt me?!
