I knew I was being presumptuous when I declared Vib Gyor as the band of the year. And while The Stalker may be the song of the year (even though I'm too lazy to track down to find out if it was officially released in 2009), I'm going to officially declare that Idlewild's Post-Electric Blues is the album of the year. You knew it was just a matter of time before I released an official comment on the album.
Official comment: Post-Electric Blues is pretty enjoyable and grows in strength and power with each listen (it's as if it's one of those crazy horsemen in the Book of Three who get stronger as the more of them are killed, like every time I listen, an evil horseman dies making the album even stronger. Maybe it's because every time I listen, I'm not listening to another band which makes them die, enlivening Idlewild). I wasn't into it the first time I listened to it, but I just can't stop listening. Perhaps it's because I'm not as into the first couple of tracks on the album, but once you hit track three, the rest of the album is flat out fantastic. (Of special note are tracks 4 and 6, which seems heavily influenced by Roddy's solo work, of which I am generally a big fan. I really really love Take Me Back to the Islands, especially when I turn it on when sitting in traffic on a Metrobus.)
