SHOUT! (2000)

Oh mercy. For those of you who have not been exposed to Disturbd's cover of Shout, you've never lived. It's incredible in its campiness. First of all, Shout still reigns supreme as one of the top ten songs from the 1980s. Absolutely incredible song which has some demented meaning because, after all, these men met in therapy. You know every early song by TFF (before they made lots of money and solved their mental problems) is coming from an unhinged mind (and later as well what with Raoul and the Kings of Spain which strangely enough is an absolutely great song). This song also brings to mind awesome moments with Chuckles T. Martin where we wouold drive down the road singing the instrumental parts. The first time it happened, it was awesome as we both instinctively started singing it. Anyway, as with all great songs, don't cover it unless you can really put yout stamp on it. And I don't really like the hardcore covers of 80s classics. I think Orgy's cover of Blue Monday is an abomination.

However, Disturbed attacks this song with such stupid reckless abandon that they make it a must-listen. They add in so much great new stuff such as: "You just don't know", "Ice ice baby", "Jump jump jump!", rapping during the instrumental section (in which there are numerous puking-type noises) and finally the barbaric "BREAK BREAK BREAK BREAK!" It's beyond awesome. I wish I had done it. They must have had the best time in the studio. Go listen to it or ask me to send it to you (BREAK BREAK BREAK BREAK!)
