Oh I wish I could watch the Jazz in the playoffs but I don't have cable! It's killing me! I watch ESPN gamecast for the first half and then go to bed hoping that the first half wil play out roughly similar to the second half. You know, the dream place to live if you are a sports fan is the Pacific Time Zone. You can catch both the Eastern and the Western games at night, you never have to stay up late to watch, and (best of all), during football season you can turn on the telly and watch an East Coast game starting at 9:00 AM. So nice.
Anyway, whenever the Jazz are in the playoffs I get all nostalgic. Karl Malone beating down David Robinson year after year including the inredible time he barely touched Robinson's head and knocked him out. First playoff memory was watching the Jazz beat Portland in game 4 of the 1988 playoffs. I was eight and remember yelling "HE TOOK FIVE STEPS" when Clyde Drexler drove into the lane and dunked. My first real heartbreaking moment was when the Jazz lost Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals in 1991 after Delaney Rudd drilled a three pointer at the buzzer to send the game into overtime. I remember he yelled something to the Portland players after drilling it that my mom said was "Not very nice." Unlike the time when my buddy read Will Clark's lips and said he used the "Y" word after striking out in the '89 World Series, I have since realized what Mr. Rudd yelled at Portland. You know, I didn't see the infamous Michael Jordan shot in 1998 because my parents didn't let us watch TV on Sundays. So, my buddy Charles kept calling me every 30 seconds to give me updates during the last bit of the game. The previous phone call was "Up by three, 30 seconds left." The next phone call..."We lost." Horrible.
