I just have to get this out here. On Friday, I was listening to a bunch of music that I had heard about from 2007/2008. This included the Rosebuds (Night of the Furies), Animal Collective (Strawberry Jam), and Vampire Weekend (Vampire Weekend).
Thoughts: Rosebuds. Interesting, potentially too synthy to stick around. I liked the sounds, but worried that I wouldn't in three years. Their second album (something about birds and neighbors) was nice, but not great. However, the lyrics on I Better Run are pretty out there. A lot of the lyrics here are pretty strange.
Animal Collective: A mess and not a pretty one. Too shambolic or something for me.
Vampire Weekend: My favorite way of describing something I dislike is to say it makes me want to vomit. This made me want to vomit. Those precocious artsy fartsy rich snot-nosed Ivies...sheesh, I wanted to punch them in the mouth, with their asinine attempts at sounding hyper-literate and cool. Talk about trying way too hard to be hip. I should mention, though, that I really liked I Stand Corrected.
Do not worry, gentle readers, all was not lost. I then turned my listening attention to...Los Campesinos! and their absolutely brilliant new album Hold on Now Youngster. I felt like I had just been sucked into a wormhole and was enjoying the craziest ride of my life. There's nothing like this album. It's face-paced exuberance beyond anything I've heard. I've never EVER in my life described an album as "fun." I HATE when someone says, "Oh, that's a fun CD" or "Oh, that's a fun musical" because that typically means it's a bunch of silly stupid fluff. Well, this is a fun CD. There, I said it. I couldn't believe how much I enjoyed it. They lyrics are rapid-fire, literate, but not Vampire Weekend I'm Smarter Than You literate, and the music is insanely hyper. They actually pull of the song entitled "This is How You Spell 'Ha ha We've destroyed the hopes and dreams of a generation of faux romantics.'" The guy's vocals just kill me. Such a must-listen album of 2008, that I can hardly stand it.

Hooray for Los Campesinos! Down with VW. I'm with your, man. Totally. I've got nothing for Animal Collective, though. Or Rosebuds. Not good, not bad. Nothing.
Why is everyone jumping on the Vampire Weekend bandwagon suddenly? Besides you, of course. I keep hearing about them, seriously all the time, when a month ago I'd never heard of them. By the by, your lone monkey header is the best yet for LOWAG.
P.S. Gabbers just started "woof woof" ing at the monkey. I thought it was hilarious. Now she's literally chucking a book at me to get me to read it to her. Sigh. Must..get...computer...desk.
