The Miracle Worker? More like O'Brian's

Safety is Freedom.

Where did I see/hear that? Didn't I read that in 1984? Wasn't that one of the phrases at the Ministry of Love? Maybe that's the title of Dick Cheney's upcoming biography. Oh, it's not? Hmmm, oh wait, that's right, I found this out from someone who knows ASL, as in, safety and freedom are the same signs. THE SAME! Safety=Freedom! Here we've had a huge national debate on whether we should be sacrificing some of our freedoms for the sake of security/safety in the wake of 9/11, and yet we have generations of the deaf being immersed in totalitarian ideology! Granted, this is nothing compared to the communist indoctrination of millions of children in the 1980s through the Smurfs. For example, I had my mom make a Papa Smurf cake for my fourth birthday and thought nothing of it when I asked her to make a Papa Karl Marx cake for my fourteenth birthday. (After a couple of attempts, she ended up making a "Happy 14th Birthday Doug!" cake instead; let's see YOU try and make a decent Karl Marx cake. Especially because I gave her the picture below to work with. [She blamed it on her inability to make a good black food coloring for his moustache; I have my doubts.] Still, we did get to play "Pin the Blood of the Workers on the Capitalist" which is still one of my favorite party games.)
