As the Lord of the Rings-esque chanting ends my return to Fallen by Evanescence, I sit here somewhat stunned by how good this disc is. First of all, it managed to come to prominence through Daredevil and for anyone who watched the movie Daredevil you will all agree that it was quite an achievement for anyone to have their career enhanced by this movie. So, yes, it was all the rage in 2003, everyone talking about how it was like a female Linkin Park blah blah blah. But it's 2007 now, and goth-tinged nu metal no longer enjoys a place in the spotlight. Seems like a good time for a relisten, right? I really like the album. I really do. It's a series of great songs. I remember first listening to it and thinking, "There's no way they'll ever be able to replicate this. Something's going to happen. It's too good a debut." Sho nuff, lead guitarist/founding member Moody leaves the band and they are no longer relevant. I can predict that I will forget about this album in the future because it's a stand-alone disc. I also predict when I listen to it in the future, I will always like it. I guess that's just the metalhead in me...(cue Chester of Linkin Park channeling Tim McGraw)
The urge to run, the restlessness
The heart of stone I sometimes get
The things I've done for foolish pride
The me that's never satisfied
The face that's in the mirror when I dont like what I see
I guess that's just the metalhead in me
Wow, that works on so many levels. Who knew that cowboys and angst-ridden metalheads are really two-sides of the same coin? Urban vs. Rural?

Evanescence? Seriously. Yikes. Some days I am reminded that there's a mini generation gap between the two of us. Come to think of it... references to Evanescence, Linkin Park and Tim McGraw in the same post may be more than a "mini" gap. You have me severely confused, Douglas.
