Steve Jobs's Essay

Interesting. On one hand I think dumping the DRM would be nice, especially when you get something that gives you 20 free downloads on MSN or Sony Connect. On the other hand, it's not that hard to get around DRM. You just burn the song to a CD and then download from the CD. Granted, some information may be lost in the transfer, but I don't think too many people care. I also can't remember coming across something that was on MSN or Sony that wasn't on Itunes. Maybe some stuff on Napster...I want Steve Jobs to fight with the four music companies to allow US customers to purchase tracks available only on UK Itunes. There are a couple of Oasis tracks that I want that are only available over there. With the creation of Itunes, I hoped that I would have access to all the rare tracks out there, but no one, not even Apple, has been able to make this possible, and the world of music suffers because of it.

Still, I give Jobs credit for calling out the lumbering big four, who are more terrified about piracy then they are interesting in selling music.
