You Choose 2008: Tim McCain vs. He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named

My first post-debate impression: National commentators had the gall to say someone won this thing? Did anyone else feel that if Jim Lehrererer had jumped onto the stage and bludgeoned both of them with his shoe while yelling "ANSWER THE $^$%^ QUESTION" that he would have been completely justified? I should vote for Jim...speaking of Jim, Barack Obama called John McCain "Tim" and "Jim" at different points in the debate. Not as bad as Jim Rome calling Jim Everett "Chris" on his show, but still a nice little dig. Well, McCain seemed to respond to this by refusing to look at Obama and when he talked to him, he didn't mention his name. Every once in a while, he mentioned this "Senator Obama" fellow, but unless you knew the context of the debate, you wouldn't have realized that, why! Senator Obama's standing right next to him!
No commentator seems to have commented on some of the absurd comments from the candidates. So I will:
Obama: (talking about the middle-class needing tax breaks to) "buy their kids a computer and fill up on the gas that is killing them!"
Obama: "If we give tax breaks to the oil companies, then there are those who won't get them."
McCain: (referring to a spending bill) "And we fixed it and we killed it."
McCain: "You cannot have a failed strategy that will ultimately make you lose a conflict."
Obama: "The lesson is that we should never hesitate to use our military."
Two comments:
McCain's first comment sounds like he's a veternarian.
How has the McCain campaign not used that final comment of Obama's? It's an absurd comment from a peacenik trying to act tough.
My impression: I was expecting to be really impressed by Obama's rhetorical abilities. I was underwhelmed. McCain is an old badger, just like Josh says. I think both have no clue how the economy works, which makes primary voters look like idiots. And finally, if I hear one more person say Wall Street and Main Street in the same sentence, I'm going to bludgeon them with my shoe while yelling obscenities.
