Deep Down I Know

If you look to your right, you'll see my imeem playlists. On the "recent discoveries" playlist is the song "Deep Down" by Calexico, which I cannot get enough of (which is odd because I usually have no feelings whatsoever for the 'lexico). Anywho, I finally paid attention to the lyrics the other day and to my horror realized they were talking about my relationship with the Republican party. (All my readers just jumped to the edge of their seats because I think all my readers are Republican.)

When numbers matter more than the heart
Your eyes are hollow and stiffness starts to take control
Capsize the soul, deep down you know it's evil
You've always known

Be a good example show your new tricks
And while you're out there they'll make the pitch
To rally the troops and make a huge contribution
To help push this through
Deep down you know it's evil
You've always known it's evil

The days here are numbered but your record is clean
Outstretched and waiting on banks that seem
To flow and flow, a rich reward to show
Duty carried out in the field
Deep down you know it's evil
You've always known it's evil
You've always known

As much as I like to think that Republicans really support conservative bottom-up principles because they believe in them, I have always known in the pit of my stomach that the real party leaders are money-grubbing heartless monsters that only pay lip service to conservative principles because it fattens their pocketbooks and makes it so they don't actually have to give money to the poor. (Not that I feel much different about the Democratic Party leaders who I think view the society of Brave New World as the society to strive for (Orgies! Drugs! No consequences! Grow the children in a lab!))
