Super Bowl? Anything but

That was the worst Super Bowl I've ever seen. The Bears didn't even show up (except for Urlacher) and the Colts seemed all nervous and dumb. It seems like back in the day, teams would turn it up for the Super Bowl and players would play like there was no tomorrow (See John Elway going airborne against the Packers in 1997 to get a crucial first down). Even in blowouts, teams played hard and tough for pride (See 49ers-Broncos when Jerry Rice gets pasted in the end zone by Steve Atwater after bringing the ball in. I think that touchdown put the Niners up by 21 in an ugly game but it showed a) Rice's toughness as he got creamed but held on and b) Atwater not giving up even though the game was already over...also see Cowboys-Bills where Don Bebee knocks the ball out of Leon Lett's hands to prevent a TD even though the Bills were down 52-17 at the time). Last night, with 5:30 left in the game, Grossman throws one of his only decent passes all night to Moore (?) on 4th down. This is the Bears' season on the line...4th quarter, 4th down, you need two TDs to win. This is crunch time where players play above their abilities. So what happens? Moore catches the ball and gets levelled by the freaking back-up safety who only hits him. Doesn't get his hands on the ball or anything. But Moore, who has already grabbed the ball, drops the ball on the hit. Pathetic. Talk about a let down. And then when the Colts are running out the clock, Addai busts through the line and you see the Bears safety Manning, give this half-hearted shoulder check to him as he runs by. Manning is the last man between Addai and the end zone and he doesn't even try to tackle him. Instead, Urlacher grabs Addai from behind, before he can accelerate to the end zone. Next issue. On the interception returned for a touchdown, what was Mushin Mohammed doing. The pass was terrible, but Mushin could easily have pulled the CB out of bounds. Instead, he just grabs at him and then gives up. You don't see Mohammed run him down and tackle him even though the CB has to slow down and cut, etc. to avoid everyone else. The Bears had no effort.

As for the Colts, Manning should not have won the MVP. Not even close. Granted, I only watched 2nd quarter on so I missed his TD pass to Wayne, but it seemed like he regressed as the game went on. The third quarter was so awful I fell asleep. Addai and Rhodes should have won co-MVP because it was the Colts running attack that won the game. Manning spent the whole game looking flustered and complaining about his receivers not doing what he wanted them to do as he threw off target. The pass to Harrison where Harrison got murdered was behind him. Manning looked rattled. Do you think he deserves to be in the same class as people like Young, Montana, Aikman, Elway, Rice, etc.? He's a great QB, but he didn't deserve the MVP for that performance.

It's rare that I notice a standout performance on defense. I don't know why, but I rarely say, "Wow, this guy's playing awesome" when I watch a defense. However, Urlacher impressed me. He seemed to be the only Bear that could really stick a running back and keep him from picking up extra yardage. He played hard.

For some reason I watched the Prince halftime show and, knowing nothing about Prince, was shocked that he was playing the guitar. Or pretending to play the guitar, I couldn't really tell, because on occasion his riffs were going while his hands were still. I'll be honest, after all the things I've heard about Prince, I was underwhelmed. Not weird enough. I'm glad he plays the guitar, though. Good for him

Super Bowl sucked. Just a plain bad game. And I'm not sure about Prince. I've never been much of fan, so I'd be interested to see what an actual fan has to say about it.
